A video card, video adapter, graphics accelerator card, display adapter, or graphics card is an expansioncard which generates output images to a display. Most video cards offer added functions, such as accelerated rendering of 3D scenes and 2D graphics, video capture, TV-tuner adapter, MPEG-2/MPEG-4 decoding, light pen, TV output, or the ability to connect multiple monitors (multi-monitor). Other modern high performance video cards are used for more graphically demanding purposes, such as PC games.
The video cards were used in Apple 2 microcomputer fist. It was the simplest version which has a single colour. Then improved version which has more than a single colour has been come out by Hercules. The other versions are;

Each motherboard supports only a limited range of video card. Many modern computers don not have video expansion vards but instead have GPUs(Graphic Processing Units) integrated directly onto the motherboard. This allows for a less expensive computer but also for a less powerfull graphic system. This option is wise for the avarage business and home user not interested in advanced graphics capabilities or the latest games.
